Current status of n-type SnS: paving the way for SnS homojunction solar cells

Abstract Orthorhombic SnS is a promising thin-film solar-cell material composed of safe and abundant elements with suitable optical properties for photovoltaic application. For approximately two decades, solar cells have employed heterojunction structures p-type other n-type semiconductors because undoped typically exhibits electrical conduction. However, their conversion efficiency has remained stagnant at 4%–5% long time. A breakthrough required to significantly improve efficiencies before can be put into practical use. Therefore, this comprehensive review article establishes the current state art in cells, an aim accelerate both fundamental research applications field. We discuss issues specific advantages homojunction structure, summarize recent advances by impurity doping, which form homojunction. The latter half describes latest on fabrication single crystals films halogen-doped SnS, prepared via doping system conclude summarizing status future work devices, including development high-efficiency multi-junction band gap engineering.
